Puppetry
A
sympathetic soundscape will enhance your show. For productions with
live sound, seeing and hearing musical instruments can bring a sense
of wonder. With recorded sound an audience can be enchanted by a well-devised
soundtrack. As well as using more traditional instruments Jonathan
Lambert has a keen interest in unusual instruments and sound sources.
These can have a strong aural and visual impact and give your show
a unique quality.
Jonathan
first wrote for puppets in the early 1990s, writing songs and themes
for shows by Tin Drum. More recently he devised, and performed live,
the music for Baobab Theatre’s “The Enchanted Bird”
(2003-04). For Garlic Theatre he scored "Old Mother Hubbard (2008),
"The Magnificent Flying Machine" (2007), "Three Billy
Goats Gruff" (2005) and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”
(2004) having previously recorded and produced the sound for “Fiddlesticks”
(2002). For Luis Z. Boy, of Norwich Puppet Theatre, he created the
soundtrack for "The Emperor's New Clothes" (2006). Jonathan
has also composed music for Norwich puppeteer Jan King, played saxophone
for Steve Tiplady’s “Pinocchio” and worked as musical
director for Tiebreak Theatre’s “Frog in Love”.
He
believes it is important always to find the sound that sparks the
imagination and takes the audience to a new and undiscovered place.
This can mean scouring the house, street and countryside for the correct
ingredients. Jonathan is also a multi-instrumentalist specialising
in flute, clarinet and saxophones.
